The law does not require animal testing, yet 80% of countries engage with the practice.

This includes Australia and New Zealand.

Within Australia and New Zealand alone, more than 6 million animals annually are subjected to animal testing. The vast majority of the animals used in these tests are exposed to pain, distress and lasting harm, either from the tests themselves or the punitive and confined cages they are housed in.

“Ask the experimenters why they experiment on animals and the answer is: ‘Because animals are like us’. Ask the experimenters why it is morally okay to experiment on animals and the answer is: ‘Because the animals are not like us’’ states Professor Charles R. Magel for Animals Australia.[1]

Professor Magel continues, noting that “This is an ethical and moral issue of the first order.” If animals are so similar that they can be used for testing, surely they have the ability to suffer physically and psychologically, and have the conscious awareness, that means they deserve to be protected from this.

According to PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) the findings of these tests are not always accurate.[2] Australia does not publish animal testing statistics and teachings, but most states report this data separately, which can be found at Humane Research Australia.

It only takes a small act of kindness to change an animal’s life in a big way. VITUS stands to always be cruelty free, and support the ethical treatment of animal, which is why we are proud to announce that we are the newest business to join the PETA Business Friends program.
